I’ve been a few times to Golden Dinosaurs over the past handful of years. All
of their selections are what I would describe as “comfort food-esque” and I love their house-made seitan and tempeh selections. They are a little pricey but that is expected for the area and other comparable vegan options. On this trip we had delivery through UberEats and ordered French Dip, Potato Salad, Pastrami Rueben, Side Chickies, and a Peanut Butter Pie with Oreo Crust.
Okay, I can NOT believe I am the first to review the potato salad as a stand alone side dish here!!! Simply said: I love this potato salad. It is a mustard-based potato salad and in an area where for some weird reason people seem to prefer mayonnaise-based potato salad (I have ALWAYS hated mayonnaise) and that alone is a blessing. Not to mention the fact that most I’ve experienced includes bacon and hard-boiled eggs. 🤮 I apologize for the photo but when I got it I snacked first and photographed later (remember I love this!) so the portion size does reach the top of the container it is in and is excellent value for the price (pro tip - it’s a full dollar cheaper if you “make it a combo” and add this as a side to another dish). When it comes to mouth-feel this dish is comparable to any other potato salad and very pleasant with smooshy boiled potatoes. Warning ⚠️ these are red potatoes with at least some skin/peel mashed in so if you don’t like that usually this will be off putting for you! The flavor of dill seasoning with crunchy pickle bits on this is amazing and I order it every time I eat here.
My Carnivore Partner deviated to my preferences on this entire order since he knows it’s a favorite spot of mine but when I was reading back the order this was the dish he was most excited to try! I went in super confidant that he would adore this and it would be his number one pick of the meal - I was shocked when it wasn’t! Now don’t get me wrong, it came in second, but he thought it could be creamier. (For curious readers his favorite from this order was the French Dip, but we haven’t yet had the dessert)
I continue to stand by Golden Dinosaurs as a great place to take the meat-eaters in your life. The classics-made-vegan options available means there is something for everyone! My suggestion is to eat on the provided outdoor patio for the best quality and presentation. Bonus is you can squeeze in some shopping if the shops are open and burn off some of those comfort-food calories walking the cute and artsy Gulfport street!
