Really disappointed by the vegan options at Darcy’s Pub Westshore. They spend a lot of
time promoting the menu in the local vegan online groups but what we tried was pretty hohum.
This tofu burger was $20 and was nothing special at all, and tasted worse than something we would make ourselves at home. It came with some fries that were also not exceptional.
I was also expecting the atmosphere of the bar to be a bit hipper than it was. It felt like any boomer bar or Milestones you can find anywhere in Alberta or Canadian suburban culture and not geared to people under 40.
I’m glad there are vegan options but that’s not enough. Most of them are “can be made vegan options” and you’re paying the same price for fewer ingredients because they don’t have vegan sour cream or vegan Parmesan. Vegan options need to be so good, non-vegan would want them and this isn’t it.
