As a New York transplant to the DC area, I don’t crave much- but I
do, every so often, crave a good bagel. That crusty outside, chewy-soft inside that’s great fresh and better lightly toasted, ubiquitous in the five boroughs but impossible to find outside the tri-state area. DC locals swear by Call Your Mother and The Fountain, one of their vegan options with Vertage vegan cream cheese, lettuce, tomato and veggie slaw on a za’atar bagel sounded perfect. And it almost was! The flavors were delicious, and if I didn’t have that Brooklyn deli texture in my head it would have been. Probably toasted would have better- but this came closest to what I’ve found so far!
