My family got together at Joey Sherway last week. My sister made the reservation and was assured that vegan options would be available for me. Sure enough, there were several vegetarian options on the menu that could be veganized. Thankfully our waitress was helpful in identifying the ingredients in the vegetarian dishes that could be switched out.
My sister wanted the Szechuan Chicken Lettuce Wraps, but was concerned about not being able to finish it. I offered to help her out but only if the chicken was switched to tofu. She had no problem with that. So we ordered the Szechuan Tofu Lettuce Wraps. Again, there was an ingredient that stopped it from being vegan (the spicy aioli) which I requested that they remove. Similar to another dish that I have just reviewed, I just said “do what you have to do to make it vegan.” I don’t remember what was substituted for the spicy aïoli.
Both my sister and I absolutely loved whatever they did to this dish. It was very delicious and definitely spicy. Too spicy for my sister. The flavours blended well together. Refer to the third photo for a description of the dish. The price was $24.50.
Using lettuce instead of typical wraps is brilliant. It not only cuts the calories and carbs down, it’s also healthier.
I would definitely get this again. And I’d recommend it.
