My family celebrated my nephew’s birthday at Red Lobster. I obviously didn’t choose this restaurant, but I didn’t put up a fuss simply because it wasn’t my birthday (unlike my family’s reaction to my restaurant choices on my birthday - but I digress). I absolutely hate Red Lobster, even in my pre-vegan days. Many items are deep-fried and soaked in butter. Hardly appealing to me (then and now) and neither is the tank of live lobsters at the front of the restaurant that customers drool over, ignorant of the inherent cruelty.

As a vegan, the menu is very unfriendly. There were only two items on the menu for me, and both were typically side orders. Their crappy simple garden salad has even been removed from the menu.

The second of the two vegan sides was Chesapeake Fries. I ordered them simply to have something to eat. These french fries were about as plain as they come, with ketchup on the side. I had to ask for my order to be veganized as a shrimp-flavoured spice is normally sprinkled on top. So I asked for this not to be applied to my fries.

I would order this again if forced to eat at Red Lobster, but it’s far from a showstopper.

This dish was $4.49 as an entrée / à la carte. Certainly overpriced but cheaper than the seafood items on the menu.

Our server was very polite and efficient, so no complaints there.
