Was quite delighted to see these vegan friendly offerings in the frozen food. The normal vegan friendly options for steamed buns are red bean, lotus paste and sometimes vegetarian (if there isn’t dried prawn!) and then again, it depends if any dairy or egg was used in the recipe..
Followed the instructions on the pack and steamed them for 10 minutes from frozen. Texture was mediocre - not mushy from steaming, not tough or chewy but nothing really stood out. The amount of potato filling wasn’t meagre, roughly about 2/3 of what’s pictured on the package. However, what the bun lacked in texture and amount of filling, it made up in chilli heat. Disappointingly though, the heat wasn’t accompanied by the rich spice flavours of a good curry. It’s like when I rush the curry cooking process so the chilli and spices don’t get sufficient time to cook and infuse.
I am unlikely to buy this flavour again, but would definitely try other flavours.
