Yesterday afternoon while whimsically shopping the local Fred Meyer I came across these burgers on CLOSEOUT ($2-something / package). I figured “why not?”
I’m skeptical of most things “meaty” but meatless, and prefer a more puritanical approach to protein consumption, tending to choose products closer to the source.
BUT, that said, I’m open to new experiences. Sometimes ya get a hankering for a little something that’s quick, chewy, smoky, meaty and has a mouthfeel that packs a powerful protein punch.
These pucks deliver all the above with aplomb. I didn’t even bother with a bun (I didn’t have any on hand!) and only seasoned them with a tiny pinch of sea salt and some freshly ground black pepper. I later added a teaspoon of some Whole Foods 365 brand Memphis Madness barbecue sauce, just to see how they paired.
Daaaaang!
I could’ve eaten two of these things!
I’ll be on the lookout for these guys next time I peruse the shelves at Kroger, closeout or not.
