After checking out the World Snow Sculpture Championship in sub-0°F weather, all I was looking for was a bowl of hot soup! You can get this in a cup or a bowl size. I went with bowl but probably should have stuck to a cup. At least I got to bring some home for @jonok! This soup has yams, coconut milk, curry, ginger, and scallions. The soup was warm, but didn't come out piping hot like I was hoping. It was still good though. I've had Mad Hare's cauliflower/chickpea combination in a burger before, but it was nice to try them on their own as a snack. Cauliflower is such a pungent ingredient, so it maintains it's flavor in these fried balls. They're super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I like traditional falafel more, but this is a nice little snack and can be added as a protein to any dish. I love that all of their aiolis are vegan. When I first came to The Wild Hare, I was so happy to see that the onion rings were vegan! So often the batter is made with milk or eggs. These onion rings are everything you'd need in a greasy-goodness appetizer. You can choose to get Moroccan seasoned ones, but this time we wanted the aioli flavor to shine through more. The onion rings themselves are really nice and crisp. The only issue is that the breading does come off quite easily, so you need to be delicate with these. They're also gluten free, a long with all of the other appetizers! You can choose which sauce to have with your rings. There are nine options and all but one (bleu cheese) are vegan! The options are fry sauce, ranch, BBQ, harissa aioli, basil pesto aioli, cilantro lime aioli, sesame aioli, and wasabi aioli. This time we went with the cilantro lime aioli. It was bright and flavorful, perfect for a warm spring day. I would recommend getting two sauces if you're willing to spend the extra dollar. The Wild Hare gives you the option to sub in a caulafel patty on any of their burgers. I was thinking about getting the Mediterranean bowl, but when I saw this Mediterranean-type flavored burger, I thought I'd try it out. I don't think they have any vegan cheese at this restaurant, but all of their aiolis are vegan by default! Because of this, I really think this is the only burger I'd veganize. The other ones rely on bacon or a special cheese for flavor. This burger has basil-pesto aioli, cucumber, tomato, and arugula. I really enjoy all the different aiolis they have here. They're great for dipping fries/onion rings, but they're also great on their main dishes like burgers and bowls. This burger had a nice fresh summertime flavor. The caulafel patty was a unique option. It was very crispy on the outside like falafel. I do appreciate that it is cut with cauliflower. A falafel that big would be too much! I love that The Wild Hare has so many vegan options. There are five different bowls on the menu, and all are vegan by default (as well as gluten free)! This one is marked as spicy, although it's definitely more of a Minnesotan spice. This is a pretty mild curry that has a nice creamy texture because of the coconut milk. Instead of being a curry served with rice, it's more of a creamy curry rice, or pre-mixed. It has a bunch of veggies including broccoli, red peppers, sweet potatoes, carrots crispy chickpeas, scallions, and cilantro. The chickpeas were a fun addition. They added a nice texture and were very flavorful. You can add tofu for an additional $4. This actually makes this dish quite expensive at $22. When the server asked if we wanted dessert I excitedly asked "you have vegan desserts?!" It's always so exciting to find desserts at non-vegan restaurants! He let us know that the current cheesecake was suitable or we could get a scoop of vegan icecream. This restaurant is 90's themed so it makes sense that they would have this iconic dessert. @jonok is much more of a 90's kid than me so he was very excited for this. It was super thick and sweet. This portion size is almost comically small for $13. It definitely hurt when I saw it considering it's mostly rice and beans. I also thought the cilantro still on the stem was funny. I guess it's good if you don't like cilantro since it would be easy to pick off (but there's cilantro lime aioli over the rest of the dish). I had to destem the cilantro myself to properly eat it. The real stars of the dish were the avocado salsa and cilantro lime aioli. It was such a beautiful fall day, I just knew I wanted to spend it strolling through Stillwater and trying out a new restaurant. In highschool I loved coming to Stillwater with my friends and grabbing some onion rings at Leo's. I'm not sure how vegan-friendly Leo's is now, but it's great to know I can still get my onion ring fix at The Wild Hare, just down the street! This place is super vegan-friendly, with most appetizers being vegan as well as all of their aiolis! These onion rings can be ordered plain or Moroccan spiced. We went with the spiced option and loved the hints of cinnamon, cumin, ginger, and paprika flavors.
