Si Wei Mao Cai was established in 2011 by two food lovers who wanted to bring authentic Sichuan flavors to Singapore. @vikas review of this had me too intrigued to not try it. I was my no means hungry at this point, so when this monster bowl of spicy hot oil with a mountain of ingredients arrived I was very intimidated. It was delicious, my toppings of lotus root, tofu, potato noodles, and cabbage were nicely soaked in the hot spicy Szechuan oil mildly numbing my tongue and waking up my senses all at the same time. The chewiness of the potato noodles was so nice, as well as the crunchiness of the lotus root. It was not too spicy in my opinion, but the amount of oil and Szechuan definitely wreaks a bit of havoc on the stomach. I am sad to say I did not get anywhere close to finishing this dish:( #hugeportions

I was super excited to try this restaurant after seeing @dafnelately and @vikas reviews. This was probably the most authentic Szechuan cuisine I had ever had, and it really did knock my socks off. Starting off with this free appetizer thanks to abillion, I loooved the texture of these noodles and the crispy, chewy, spicy, pickled, oily, salty, umami goodness poured on top. It was such a huge portion! It could have been my main and been enough. It definitely had some heat but nothing I can’t handle 🌶️ #welikeitspicy.

The portion for this is comically larger than just about everything else 😅 Keep that in mind when ordering! It’s not as #spicy as the name or looks would suggest but if you don’t like that “green” aftertaste #chilli or bell peppers tend to impart on dishes then you may not necessarily enjoy this 🫑 They fried the #eggplant such that it was crunchy while super saucy at the same time 😋 Super recommended if you love #aubergine! 🍆 Speaking of aubergines, my duck plushie named “Aubergine” was stolen from me recently. If you’ve seen the same duck I’ve highlighted in my #ducksofabv posts before somewhere in Singapore please ducknap back on my behalf 🦆

I feel like all the best things in life are #beans affiliated 🫘 Think #tofu, cat paws 🐾, #tempeh, puns like “how you bean doing”, #glassnoodles 🍜, transbeans 🏳️‍⚧️, #coffee ☕️, #vegancheese 🧀, and most importantly #miso 🏆 The noodles are really hard to pick up (skill issue) but they are oh so lekker 😋 In spite of their baptism in #chillioil this isn’t all that #spicy so it’s possible for everyone to enjoy 🤗

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ This lit my mouth on fire 🔥 Mao Cai is a traditional hot pot dish from the Sichuan province in China 🇨🇳 People here are fearless when it comes to the mouth numbing Sichuan peppercorn, a truly unique feeling, that doesn’t hit your tongue like a hot chili pepper does but instead heats and numbs your soul. And the fact that it’s basically hot oil with veggies also helps! The best part of this dish is that you choose what you want in it and then they add all the toppings like parsley, peanuts, sesame seeds and green onion. We got sliced potatoes, lotus root, tofu, and mushrooms. It was amazing! If you’re visiting #singapore this is hands down one of the best things you can try! #bestof

(Sorry the picture is the aftermath cuz it was so good)Worth every cent. Portion is large considering mushrooms arent cheap. It is MOUTH NUMBING and abit on the spicy side but it dissipates fast. Has some bittergourd to counter the numbness!! highly recco

super good dish, can feed 2 pax imo. On the oily and salty side, but thats how its meant to be haha. Indulgent. Definitely not for those looking for a healthy meal.
