When you walk into a tiny, unassuming restaurant with not much decor or furniture and a 14-year old kid is taking the orders, it’s either going to be abysmal or legendary. Thankfully, it was the latter! They got their priorities straight as they value the food over ambience here.
It was my first time ever trying mazesoba, and I’m so glad I did it here. There is one vegetarian/vegan option for ramen, donburi, and mazesoba. Here’s how it was described on the menu:
‘Thick & chewy egg noodles topped with sliced bean curd, comes with shoyu tare, grilled sweet corn, free range Ajitsuke egg, seasoned bamboo shoots, shredded black fungus, plain mayonnaise, and house made furikake. (Vegan option comes with flour noodles and more toppings instead of egg)’

I checked that the mayonnaise is vegan and the furikake is bonito flake-free! It came out in no time beautifully presented. The noodles were thin, plentiful, and bouncy with a nice bite to them. The tofu was well marinated and very flavourful, the charred corn was super fresh and the mushrooms added a lovely umami flavour. I highly recommend adding the chilli oil for an extra $2 as its combination with the very generous dollop of vegan mayonnaise is delectable. The creaminess softened the sharp spiciness of the chilli oil and delivered a rich mouth-feel for the whole bowl. Although there’s one less ingredient than the vegetarian mazesoba, nothing here feels missing in the perfectly balanced harmony of flavours and textures. All the macros were represented here too. Creamy fattiness and protein are often missing from vegan ramen bowls but here they had the mayonnaise and tofu, not just noodles and vegetables, so the whole thing felt very satiating, full-bodied, and well-rounded. Oh yes, I definitely left this place full-bodied 😋 Truly a hidden gem in East Gosford!
They do something like a 1% card surcharge here so do bring your cash if you can. I’ll definitely be back with cash to try their donburi.
