I was in the area to pick up a CSA and saw this place on Google maps. I saw a review that said almost all dishes could be made vegan! I love taking myself on dates to try out new restaurants so I thought this would be a great stop. Linden Hills is a super cute part of town. The "downtown" area has lots of nice restaurants and there are amazing houses and gardens in the area. I walked along a trail that used to be a trolley line. I read a plaque that talked about how there were trolley cars going from St. Paul, all the way to Lake Minnetonka! It makes me so sad that we no longer have that amazing public transportation. Damn you, General Motors!
Anyway, enough geeking out about the neighborhood. There were so many options here! Curries, noodles, stir frys, and hot plates can all be made vegan! All of the dishes seem to have a wonderful variety of fresh veggies. This one has broccoli, shiitake mushrooms, red pepper, zucchini, and pea pods. I wanted something with lots of veggies that was also a bit cozy, so the dark garlic brown sauce listed on the menu sounded wonderful. Added tofu or mock duck makes this $20. This place is a bit more expensive than other Thai restaurants in the city, but it is in an expensive neighborhood and they seem to get really nice fresh ingredients, so the price makes sense. I like that the tofu is cut into these thin strips. They aren't super fried, making the dish feel light. The shiitake added so much good umami flavor. It looks like a lot of sauce, but the rice did such a good job soaking it all up. It was so flavorful and garlicky. They're also not afraid of making the dishes spicy here! I chose a 3/5 spice level and it was definitely hot! I might go with 2/5 next time if I want something more comfortable. But if I am feeling something spicy, 3 is manageable. I'll definitely be back here and bring @jonok!
