Sorry about the terrible photo! I obviously blame the lighting! I had been to Merkamo's stall in Spitalfields market for many years so I was delighted when I saw they now have a bricks and mortar restaurant off Brick Lane. It's really nicely decorated and our server couldn't have been more pleasant! We went for a medium traditional plate to share and the food was so good! Three different types of lentils and various vegetables all loaded onto injera, what's not to love! If you haven't tried Ethiopian food before you absolutely must! A vegan heaven!

I thought this was really flavorful and delicious! It kept me full for a while, but if I went back I would probably get an option with carbs :) The entire stand is vegan so you can’t go wrong. I liked how this wasn’t as greasy/heavy as other #Ethiopian stands I’ve tried in London. #londoneats #lentils #okra 🧡

It makes me so glad when I see a sign saying 100% vegan. This traditional Ethiopian food is being sold from a stall in Spitalfields Market. At £7.99 it was a great value lunch and plenty big enough, although there’s a large portion available at £9.99. I chose the #Injerawrap - sour fermented pancake-like flatbread with a slightly spongy texture, traditionally made of teff flour and I love it. The super grain is filled with complete proteins, fibre, magnesium, iron and calcium The #recyclable cardboard dish was also filled to the brim with goodness- chickpeas, corn, peppers, spinach and a mass of tiny green balls. Is that a kind of quinoa? I accepted the offer of spicy sauce which was the perfect kick to go with the mildness of the chickpea. Merkamo is one of many food stalls in the market and there are communal tables for standing at to eat and some seated ones so you can enjoy lunch in one place and watch the world pass by, #veganisnotscary #ethiopianfood #injera #chickpeas

My favourite meals are always prevalently green, so this was perfection. Peas, green beans, green lentils and lots of other good stuff. We also got a very tasty brown lentil samosa.

I love this dish. Used to get regularly and this is my first time since the before days. The injera is gorgeous, all the different lentils are tasty and protein packed.

Absolutely tasty and heathy vegan Ethiopian food! I almost wanted to order every item on the menu! My order includes a good protein mix of chickpeas, dhal, lentils, hummus. Everything is seasoned well and not too salty. The chilli sauce is great with good spices. Price is reasonable for the food quality and quantity. Very filling!
