I have an uncle named Nori, I’m curious if he’d be into this 😇 It’s #seaweed, #battered and hence bettered à la #deepfried in #panko 😙 It’s so shrimple 🦐 Thankfully #eggfree by default, so you don’t even have to #asktoveganize 🌱 RM15 for 3 pieces is what is it 🤷‍♀️ There isn’t much #japanesefood to go around in this tiny city and mary’s sea-faring cousin isn’t any cheaper here either. It tastes good, but I’m partial to their #enoki option instead. ps. they serve this with #shoyu, but I’d recommend checking each time that they don’t accidentally serve you the #fishsauce instead 🐟

This… I’m not sure if this was a #tofu curd 🤨 It tasted more like #veganfish than something #homemade 🐟 You can pick between rice or #udon for all of the #bento here and for the first time ever, I went for the latter 😌 It was a great pick! Compared to the rice it’s a lot less filling so you can enjoy more of the absolutely massive portion 🫃

I’m luring my family into eating more #plantbased with amazing options like these & the fact that it has completely lowered my uric acid levels so I can drink by the gallon again 😛 The latter bit is especially enticing to my dad with his #gout 🦶 The #japanesecurry was really well done 👌and the #fakemeat they used was excellent! Other than that, you get all the regulars per their other #bento meals 🍱 That being #croquettes 🥔, some #veganskewers, #cornribs 🌽, a #mochi, #pickledginger 🫚, some #broccoli 🥦, and also #misosoup 🥵 That’s some value for RM34! It’s a perfect spot for #omnivegandining and with my family downing everything, it’s safe to say it’s absolutely #omnivoreapproved 🤗 #japanesefood #veganinkuching

They made #vegantuna out of a tomato 😵 I’m still gobsmacked at the effort they put into these meals! The bar for #omnivegandining is just so low in #kuching so I’m glad to see it! 🙌 That’s not all the DIY #tuna though! They seem to have even made their own tuna flakes (just like the kind you get in a tin) using #soy curls! Just the same as they did with the “ribs” — #fakemeat on skewers that’s almost definitely made in-house 🍱 I’ve never had a #bento with #sushi instead of rice but I welcome it! It becomes such a wonderfully diverse meal and I gotta give them credit for it 😋 Oh, and though @abillion has removed dates from reviews I hope the #abillioncommunity has at least had a good #valentinesday 😘 #veganinkuching #japanesefood #abillionbugs

Here’s a dish that’s almost always safe at #japanese restaurants — #yasai tempura 🍤 This was a generous serving! 😋 The #enoki is always a favourite 😻 but they also had two different varieties of #sweetpotato 🍠, #bellpeppers 🫑 though it’s the green one 🤢, carrot 🥕, #shiitake (tautology warning) #mushroom 🍄, and eggplant 🍆 You’ll notice they note to not include the #tempura sauce, whatever that is, because it’s not vegan. Perhaps it’s vegetarian? 🤷‍♀️ No clue, cause the menu does seem to have these little leaf markers on vegetarian items 🌱 Oh, and the sauce they put on the cucumber 🥒 and lettuce 🥬 is a sesame sauce drizzle by the way. I think RM15 is just about typical for the serving size we got 😇 If you’re looking for a main pairing with something like this, my go-to would be a nice cold #soba 🍜 #japanesefood #veganinkuching #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease

I actually went splitsies on the #bento here 😋 The mains simply seemed too appealing to not get a fix of both! Especially since I’m not gonna be in #kuching long 😩 You can read all about the sides in my review of their eggplant #teriyaki 👉 https://www.abillion.com/dishes/izakaya-japanese-restaurant-eggplant-teriyaki-vegan-bento-10449253 The main draw here is the pan-fried #mushrooms & #soycurls 😋 They use #hericiummushroom — something you just can’t take for granted in an omni establishment & slathered it in teriyaki 🤤 If that’s not enough, you can always ask for #sweetsauce on the side anyways 😉 I do hope they improve on their “potato cake” because I am a sucker for #croquettes 🥔 It was frankly a bit bland — not something a little #shoyu can’t fix but yeah, it takes away from a 10/10 meal 😉 Be prepared to shell out though; This serving was RM34 😳 Okay for what I’m used to in Penang, but maybe a little shocking for the #kuching crowd 😅 #veganinkuching #japanesefood #omnivegandining

Proficiat! 🙌 Another big Kuching player has added #veganfriendly items to their large, mostly omnivorous menu 👩‍🍳 A very cohesive #bento menu at that! 🍱 Keen observers may notice in the last photo that they list “lightly grilled sweetcorn with cheese” as one of the sides; They’ve corrected this and no longer include the #cheese 🧀 I do recommend making a reservation via Whatsapp ahead of time & specifying your dietary preferences. This helped them catch something non-vegan in another side we ordered. The service here is excellent! 💯 I’m a sucker for #eggplant and this absolutely delivered 😋🍆 They way they chopped it and have it unroll is fantastic! The #teriyaki was #droolworthy too 🤤 Perfect pairing with the lovely #japonica rice they serve 🍚 As for appetisers, they’re the same bento to bento 👉 Starting with the aforementioned grilled #sweetcorn 🌽 — so #savoury by the way! 🥵 plus an amazing #mushroom floss rice ball 🍙, another single #shiitake placed right smack in the centre of the bento box 😂 and a yet another piece of #pumpkin in sweet #shoyu & vinegar (not pictured) 🎃 Then for the sides you’ll find some amazing #veganribs which they seem to make in-house, a somewhat disappointing “potato cake”, a nice & warm #misosoup with bits of #tofu in it, and a #gyoza in place of the #beancurd the menu mentions 🥟 Oh, I’m not finished! 🤣 Finally, a lovely #redbean #mochi to finish your unbelievably diverse meal 🤰 And to think @m1tch9i thought we’d need a side 🤭 This is RM31 by the way 💸 I think it’s worth it 😉 #veganinkuching #japanesefood #omnivegandining
