I’ve also visited the Il Fornello restaurant in Toronto’s Greektown neighbourhood. The vegan / plant-based menus differ slightly, but both restaurants have incredibly tasty offerings. Il Fornello is an Italian restaurant with a very good plant-based menu to complement its ‘regular’ menu. Kudos to the restaurant for taking the initiative to create very good plant-based /vegan dishes. This is so contrary to my observation and experience at many other Italian restaurants that just refuse to evolve. Create / Offer it and they will come! And come back! We ordered a few entreés to share. We ordered a couple pizzas simply because we couldn’t decide on one. The one I haven’t yet reviewed is the Pizza Rapini. I chose it simply because I love rapini, even though I never buy it. I never knew rapini would make a great pizza topping, and there was no shortage of it on our pizza. It wonderfully complemented the other toppings. It was absolutely delicious with a very thin crust. I would not hesitate to order it again. My date / friend who was fully open to eating vegan was very impressed with the Pizza Rapini. She absolutely loved this pizza and the other one we had ordered. I’m surprised nobody had previously reviewed this pizza for this location on this app. It truly deserves to be ordered. The Plant-Based Pizza Rapini was priced at $24.00. I will definitely return to Il Fornello and support / promote its vegan menu, whether it be this location or any of its other locations. Our waiter last night was great. He was very helpful in recommending various dishes.

This is much more than most non-vegan restaurants do! 😊 The concept of having fresh arugula on pizza is still new to me. I’ve had it a few times and I’m always taken back at how delicious it is! This time at Il Fornello was no different. Perhaps there was a bit too much arugula on it (if that’s even possible), but it didn’t matter. The pizza was cooked to perfection. So was the zucchini, buried under the arugula. I definitely recommend this pizza.

This is much more than most non-vegan restaurants do! 😊 A staple in any Italian restaurant is Bruschetta Pomodoro and we had vegan mozzarella cheese added to this order. The bruschetta-cheese combo met my expectations. It was fresh, crispy and full flavour. I preferred it much more than the bruschetta with vegan feta that I had last week. There were actually 4 pieces in the serving; I remembered to take a photo after I ate 1 of them. I would get this appetizer again.

Il Fornello) is located in Richmond Hill and it has assembled a decent vegan menu. There were 3 choices for dessert, but the unanimous choice was Vegan Chocolate Coconut Panna Cotta. I don’t usually order dessert, but I’m glad I made this exception. It was heavenly! All the ingredients mixed so well together. The chocolate was rich and the coconut whip was very light and creamy. I’ll definitely get this again on my next visit.

This is much more than most non-vegan restaurants do! 😊 This large mound of Greek Salad was shared by a few of us. Extremely fresh and delicious. As with the Bruschetta Pomodoro with the vegan feta cheese, the cheese was the disappointment only because it was nowhere close to feta (in taste and texture). The salad still tasted good, but just didn’t taste like a typical Greek salad.

This is much more than most non-vegan restaurants do! 😊 Another staple in any Italian restaurant is Spaghetti Bolognese. Here, the ground beef was substituted for lentils and mushrooms - a much healthier option. Taste was certainly not sacrificed with this dish.

This is much more than most non-vegan restaurants do! 😊 A staple in any Italian restaurant is Bruschetta Pomodoro (“Pomodoro” means “tomato” in Italian), but we had vegan feta cheese added to this order. The cheese didn’t have much flavour; it didn’t taste anything like feta and the texture was way off too. The cheese was just sprinkled on; I was expecting it to have been melted a bit. The restaurant missed the mark on this one. I would get the Bruschetta Pomodoro again, but not with the vegan feta cheese.

The toppings were pretty standard (see the second photo), but the taste was exceptionally fresh! I’ll definitely get this again on my next visit.

My family had a late birthday celebration at an Italian restaurant in Richmond Hill (Il Fornello) that had assembled a decent vegan menu. The main courses were limited to pizza and pasta, with about 5 choices for each. This is much more than most non-vegan restaurants do! 😊 A couple of us ordered this Orecchiette Bomba. (“Orecchiette” means “ears” in Italian) This type of pasta conjures up a lot of childhood memories for me - family lunches on Sunday and it’s one of my faves too. The sauce wasn’t as spicy as anticipated, but still delicious nonetheless. The pasta was perfectly al dente too. The second photo lists the ingredients.

This is much more than most non-vegan restaurants do! 😊 A couple of us ordered this Fettuccine Salsiccia (Italian for ‘sausage’). Absolutely delicious!! The second photo lists the ingredients. My only complaint was the pool of grease at the bottom of the bowl, from the sausage; but not the taste. It definitely tasted Italian!
