“Hello! I’m Jamie Woodrum. I graduated from the University of Florida in May of 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.

My vegan journey started in September 2018, when I decided to align my actions with my morals. The day I went vegan, I became an activist. My passion led me to become vice president and social media director of Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary, the largest cow sanctuary in the US. I also started a vegan honey company called Humble Honee!

It’s so easy to be disconnected from the foods we eat because we don’t have to see the process of bringing a live animal to our plates. The moment I pictured myself in the victims’s position, I could no longer support the cruel and unnecessary treatment of innocent beings.

My advice for going vegan is to meet your meat. We have visitors at Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary pretty much go vegan instantly after meeting the rescued animals. It’s culturally unacceptable and illegal to eat a cat or dog in the US, but farm animals have been painted to be large, dumb animals whose only purpose is to grow into our next meal. Therefore, it’s important to connect with these animals to learn they are no different than companion animals in our homes. Visiting and supporting a local farm sanctuary is a great first step!” — Jamie Woodrum (@jamiewoodrum) 🌱
