I was so excited to visit Cultivate Café, having heard high praises from local omnis about this fully vegan place. First off, the venue is gorgeous. I felt like we were dining in a private library - mood lighting, comfy armchairs, books covering every wall (real ones too, we pulled a few out to browse while waiting for our food)! Unfortunately the food itself was... nothing much to write home about. This was my main - #portobello mushroom presented on a layer of #butterbean mash which was so smooth it tasted more like hummus. It was tasty, but the portion size was small and had me questioning the price. It also took ages to arrive, although the waiter was apologetic about the delay. Ultimately, the venue was pretty and we had a fun night, but I don't think I'd come back here.

It's amazing and fun how reviews of dishes can be polar opposite. Very underwhelming. Unimaginative and disappointing. Bland flavor profile which could have used more spices. A single portobello cap with tomato sauce on top. Could have used more of the bean mash puree which was swirled around the dish. Frisee on top which didn't add anything to the dish.
