My mum usually makes my birthday cake but this year we decided to go all out and get a cake from Hearty Hooligan (my favourite all vegan and queer woman owned restaurant that pays their staff a living wage.) I knew I wanted the lemon coconut cake but told them to decorate however they wanted, even if it was a big mess. They know that I love pickles, and they went with that. Honestly, this was the most beautiful and perfect-for-me cake I could've imagined!
It's a lemon cake with coconut frosting. Four layers of moist but dense delicious cake (just like their cupcakes!) Then the perfect amount of frosting. My mum and I love lemon, so she had made a lemon curd to go with this, but it wasn't needed bc it's so tasty and balanced. This was a 6" cake (though it seemed bigger!) and was $45 before tax, at least according to their order sheet. I cut it like I've seen professionals cut cake (square pieces instead of triangles!) I think it ended up being about 12 pieces. Luckily I have a small family so I got to eat most of it haha.
I would easily order this again. The only slight downside is that now the coconutty smell is linked to the visual of pickles in my brain 🤭😅🥒🥒
