A new favourite restaurant for our family is Eat Nabati. Nabati is an Arabic adjective that means made-of-plants or plant-based. This small, all-vegan Kensington restaurant, Eat Nabati, has food born of the markets and street food from a variety of countries in the Middle East. At least one of the three co-owners is a woman. How the menu works is, you choose your base: pita, rice and lentils, or fries. Then, you choose your filling: Egyptian falafel 🧆 , vegan-chicken or vegan-beef shawarma, Za’atar Cauliflower, Cairo Kofta vegan meatballs, Egyptian Eggplant 🍆, Alexandria’s Shrooms, or Teta’s Halloumi. Finally, you choose your spice level, meaning either Mild Tahini or Harissa Tahini (spicy). This dish that I had was Baba (beef) Shawarma Plate. It mimics a shredded beef, which is chewy and full of authentic, middle-eastern flavours. I chose to have rice and lentils as my base, the rice was a white, long-grained variety, and the lentils dotted throughout the rice were small and black, and both were cooked to perfection. The vegan beef shawarma was served on top of the rice/lentils, with “fixins” on the side, which was a mild tahini hummus and a fresh salad of lettuce, tomato, onion and assorted pickled vegetables. So delicious! Great price! We definitely recommend!
