I have always wanted to try this drink and I finally found one! Honestly, I didn't like the taste very much, it tasted like chewing gum. The citrus taste is not noticeable in my opinion. It was all about opening it though!
Ramune is a non-alcoholic carbonated soft drink originating in Japan. The name is derived from the English word lemonade transliterated into Japanese.
The original drink consists of a mixture of sugar or glucose-fructose syrup, acidulants and lemon and lime flavours. The flavour is similar to Sprite, but less sweet.
Ramune is best known for the distinctive design of its bottle, called the Codd bottle. The bottle is made of glass and sealed with a ball held in place by the pressure of the gas introduced for carbonation in the drink. To open the bottle, a bottle-opening device is provided to push the glass ball inwards and release the gas. After opening, the ball remains in the neck of the bottle where it can be shaken like a rattle. Due to this peculiarity, the drink is also known as 'mabu soda' or 'marble soda' outside Japan.
