Sophie's Kitchen

Absolutely in love with this product and have been for several years now since discovering it!

We were gutted when we could no longer find it at Coles butanahed to order some online from The Vegan Grocery Store (they have one of the best ranges when it comes to vegan products). I was so excited to have these again!

These are so flavourful and the texture and overall appareance are so appetising (and quite realistic!). They are perfectly smoked and give off such a pleasant smokey fragrance once opened. It's part of what makes them so flavourful.

These can be eaten in any way one would eat smoked salmon. We've used them all sorts of such ways and they never fail to perform. They're even quite durable in that they can be made into rolls with other ingredients inside and keep their shape. In the photo I included, they're coming apart more than usual (still keeping their shape and not really breaking much) but I'll explain why and how to prevent that, from what I've learned.

If you purchase these, make sure never you freeze them (they are meant to be kept refrigerated, though). Freezing them isn't the end of the world but after thawing, the texture changes quite a bit and they become kinda porous and fall apart more easily.

This happened to this batch because they were delivered with ice packs to ensure freshness but it froze them in the process of delivery (which is fine and better than receiving spoiled food 😋).

The only negative for me when it comes to the quality of the product itself is that it's too easy for this to happen to them, even if not frozen for long. They're still amazing for being vegan but it's just the one complaint I'd have.

And I just wish all pieces were long, there's often quite a few that are quite short and don't work for making the little rolls I usually make. However, I'm still able to incorporate the smaller pieces into things like canapés, so it's not a big issue at all. Plus, from what I remember, smaller pieces are always found in regular sliced smoked salmon, too (I'm not certain of my memory, though, so correct me if I'm wrong 😅).

I included a photo of the food I made using these. I uploaded more photos and included a creation using vegan caviar not long ago. I included more details about what ingredients I used and everything and that can be found just a little further down my posts, if interested. 😊

I'm writing this review hurriedly at the end of the day, so I'm sorry for any mistakes or if any of it is confusing in any way. I think it should be mostly fine but, yeah, just a heads up because my brain is working at a quarter capacity currently. 😋

Overall, highly recommend this product in terms recommend this product in terms of quality, originality, taste, texture and versatility. 🌱👍💚 #veganisnotscary
