The buah keluak seed, often found in Peranakan cooking, comes from the kepayang tree. The raw seed contains cyanide and is extremely deadly. In order to cook it, the seed has to go through the arduous process of curing.
In typical Peranakan cuisine, the seeds are stuffed with chicken or pork and cooked in a thick gravy.
This vego rendition uses Omni meat. Goes amazingly well with the gravy which is not too spicy but still packs a punch.
