Usually I buy the non-organic “Thin Crust” or “Deep Dish” version of this pizza starter kit from No Frills. But during the Christmas holidays, my friend invited me to come grocery shopping with her at Costco. While there, I saw this pizza starter kit for $9.99. It contained 4 crusts and 4 packs of sauce; the aforementioned non-organic kits contain 2 crusts and 2 packs of sauce for $5.99. It seemed like a better deal, so I got it.

Besides being organic, the ingredients that went into the crust and sauce are a little different from the pizza kits that I normally buy. But I’m not convinced this kit is healthier than the Thin Crust kit, despite the “organic” label. I compared the Nutritional Facts and this organic kit has more calories, more fat, more sodium, less calcium, less iron, but more potassium and more protein. To me, the negatives outweigh the positives.

The crust seemed a little heavier in weight, and the sauce tasted just as good as the sauce in the thin crust kit.

I was quite pleased with the way my pizza turned out (see the last photo). It still tasted deliciously.

The kit contained a resealable plastic bag for the unused pizza crusts. This is a nice idea, however, the company can skip the extra plastic bag by making the outer packaging resealable.

I don’t have a Costco membership, so I probably wouldn’t have the opportunity to buy this again. For the price, it’s a better deal than what I’m accustomed to. But I don’t buy into the perception that this is a healthier or superior product.
