Apparently my college-student brother uses these #lazyvegan #microwave instant rice pouches from time to time. He’s definitely not vegan, but the laziness runs in the family. He left a couple behind on his last visit, and they came in handy when I ran out of leftover rice for work lunch. Honestly, I’m not super comfortable with them because it seems like too much waste (plus I generally avoid microwaving plastic if I can help it,) but I get the convenience if you only need a small serving of #rice. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense to wash a whole pot, or you might not have time to wait on the rice cooker.
I was concerned that the rice wouldn’t cook properly — perhaps the grains would be dry and hard, or maybe soggy and gummy. Fortunately, after 90 seconds, the pouch was cooked through more or less evenly! The #organic sticky rice was soft and chewy — not as good as homemade, but definitely edible. Not something I’d use again if I can help it, but it’s an option if you’re in a pinch.
