Review of Kok Kok Kolomee (Mala) at 擂茶树 Thunder Tree by bachjess

This was absolutely delicious! Using the braised king oyster mushrooms they lovingly add to most of their kolomee dishes, this dish emphasized the numbing (ma) part of mala . It features their own mala red chili oil concoction which pairs fabulously with their signature shrooms. A very generous helping of shrooms and roasted peanuts topped with fresh crunchy, great quality salad of lettuce, julienned carrots and cucumbers and topped off with a few seaweed slices, this is so refreshing yet nicely spiced. I was told by the daughter of the owner that what I had was the regular level 1 spice. And if I desired spicier (la) more than the "ma" to ask for level 2 or higher. In my humble opinion, this was a lovely balance and nice to feel the "ma" without it being too numbing. It was just right. All in all, an exceedingly satisfying dish of excellent crumch tasty and healthy mix of Salad, satisfying "meaty" mushrooms and scrumptious noodles in this lovely mala sauce.
