I've heard about carrot dogs for a long time, but I never bothered to make them. When I was at Hi Flora! I thought I'd try out their version. It's completely loaded with pickles, tomato, mustard, and fried onions. It's all on a pita and served with a side of beet ketchup. Without the traditional bun, this was a bit messy to eat, especially with the thin consistency of the beet ketchup. I got this during my final Hi Flora! brunch. It was such a great sweet dish. I think it's really cool that they used plantain instead of traditional banana. The plantain tones down the sweetness a bit, making it easier to have more. I ventured out to Third Space Cafe this morning, just down the road from Hi Flora in hopes to get a breakfast sandwich. I was heartbroken to see that they no longer serve hot food! I decided to wait a few hours for Hi Flora to open to try this newer biscuits and gravy dish. Biscuits and gravy is one of my favorite brunch dishes! Reverie and Hard Times Cafe both have great versions that I've had many times. It was exciting to see another restaurant in the city add this classic dish to the menu! Hi Flora's is definitely the most unique. They add wild rice to their mushroom gravy! I've never seen that before. I really enjoyed it. It made it feel very Minnesotan and was perfect on a cool late summer morning. It's like the breakfast version of wild rice soup! Another unique thing about this dish is the biscuits! I think they're fried! They had a wonderfully decadent crispy crust that you can really only get frying. It was like a savory donut! The inside was so incredibly fluffy! These mushrooms fajitas are an updated version of the Hi! Fajitas I had last year. The lions mane mushroom is so meaty and such a nice focal point to this dish! There's also classic fajita bell peppers and onions. I love this big terra cotta dish that it's all served in. It also has guacamole, lettuce, house-made sour cream, and salsa verde. I really enjoyed the salsa verde. It wasn't really spicy, it was actually a bit sweet! These fajitas come with really nice, toasted tortillas. They're warm and slightly crisped to perfection. I loaded them up with all the delicious fillings. Menu description: Heirloom cacao known as the drink of the god(ess)s. Cayenne is added to increase the APHRODISIAC qualities, along with EUPHORIC vanilla bean, and PSYCHOACTIVE nutmeg (micro doses of course). Served hot or cold. As I was looking over the menu, I wanted to try something new, but it was also a hot day and I wanted something refreshing. This cacao sounded really interesting, but I wasn't sure if it would be good cold. The server told me that they actually prefer it cold, so I decided to just go with it! I was prepared for something pretty bitter, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of drinking. It's a very thick, creamy drink. The cayenne gives just a slight heat sensation that is very nice. This 15mg THC tincture is made with porchini mushrooms and oat milk. I think this is their only savory tincture. I'm glad they added this option to the menu. It's nice to have something that can be harmoniously added to food! This is what makes Hi Flora! such a unique place and a pioneer in newly legalized MN. It definitely has a mushroom flavor. This sandwich is similar to a tuna melt. It's made with creamy lions mane salad with chickpeas, pickles, house-made cashew cheese, onion, and tomato. Their bread is so amazing, so I'm always happy to get a dish with it. This was kind of a funny thing to get on a warm day on the patio, but it was delicious! I especially love the fresh, thin pickles. The lions mane/chickpea salad was very creamy and tasted great. I never ate tuna salad before going vegan, so I can't really compare it, but I did like the taste of this. Monday was Hi Flora!'s last pizza and blunts night! I hadn't gone to one before, so @jonok and I made sure to go to this one. This pizza really caught my eye. The Pasta In Bianco I had from here was incredible, so I wanted to taste that delicious sauce on a pizza! This pizza also has asparagus, poblano peppers, green olives, and pistachios. All of these ingredients worked so well together! The pistachios were an incredibly inventive ingredient that really paid off. It added a nice texture that was crunchy yet buttery. The sauce was incredible and made it all so flavorful. The pizza is on a super fluffy house-made focaccia, making the crust super delicious. They should add this to the regular menu! The house-made THC tinctures are what sets Hi Flora! apart from any other restaurants around. Their drink menu is fully non-alcoholic and you can buy a tincture to add any THC to drinks or food. There is a 5mg, 10mg, 15mg and 50mg option. (I know everyone metabolizes THC differently, but 50mg is wild! That might be best to share between a group). This SMOKED Tincture was the one that was originally on the menu when they opened last year. It's made with juniper, beets, lemon, and maple syrup. If you taste it by itself, it definitely has that earthy beet flavor. It will make whatever drink you add it to a bit sweeter. I added about 1/3 to my drink and felt pretty good. This is the March drink special. It's made with ginger beer, a lions mane mushroom zero-proof spirit (I'm assuming Three Spirit or something similar), butterfly pea flower, and oat milk. The drink comes with a mushroom glass of the ginger beer, with the other ingredients in a fun bottle. I felt like an alchemist! Mixing the drink was cool because the blue mixture turns purple because of the butterfly pea flower! I wish I had gotten a picture or video of the mixing, it was really beautiful! The taste was great too! The ginger beer is really nice and produced the perfect spiciness. The creamy texture was nice.
