Red bean is one of those unoffensive moon cake flavors — not terribly exciting, but enjoyed by kids and grandparents alike. For me, the filling is a little too sweet; if the pastry didn’t clearly state the contents, I wouldn’t necessarily know that I was eating red bean paste. I’m also docking it (and all of the moon cakes we purchased this year) a star in the presentation category for excessive plastic packaging. Still, it’s a safe and straightforward choice that also runs slightly cheaper ($2.60) than the other flavors.
