Living Butter Lettuce

I think this spectacular butter #lettuce was my favorite grocery purchase of the week! I still can’t believe it was only $1.50 at Grocery Outlet. #groceryoutletfinds It’s so easy to add these crisp and fresh-tasting leaves to any dish: lately I’ve been enjoying them in sandwiches, salads, spring rolls, lettuce cups, etc. #eatyourgreens You really do get a lot of lettuce per head; it seemingly just kept going. It unfurled in all of its big and beautiful glory when I popped open the lid, and it was actually a bit challenging to cram everything back inside the box after I’d snapped my photo. Do be sure to rinse it more carefully than you would other produce; most leaves had dirt on the underside (because the roots are in soil.) I’m not sure if said roots actually help the lettuce last longer, because it’s so good that you’ll want to use it up right away. I would absolutely get this again — although the clear #deathbyplastic shell was, frankly, super annoying (both from a waste perspective and because it occupied so much fridge space!) At least it’s accepted by recycling in my area. As for the roots — I’m hoping I can get them to take and eventually regrow a new head!

I love butter lettuce. It has bite and tastes great with olive oil, salt and other veggies in a salad. This brand has always good quality produce. This is a different way to buy lettuce! It comes with the roots and soil left on so that it stays fresh for longer. The butter lettuce has a smooth buttery texture with not much flavor. Nice for burgers and stuff. The dirt can be a little messy. #fresh #whatveganseat #eatyourveggies
