Cheddar Style Shreds

I found it at Independent’s which is not a grocery store I normally go to. I normally shop at No Frills and it’s not offered there.  As happy as I am at this plant-based cheese is available, I would be a little reluctant to buy it again. Even though it tastes and smells like cheddar, it doesn’t melt at all just like its mozzarella style counterpart. I used it to make pizza; please refer to the last two photos. Half the pizza was covered by PC Cheddar Style Shreds and the other half was covered with PC Mozzarella Style Shreds. Neither PC cheese melted. They retained their same shredded appearance. And the oven heat just hardened the cheeses.  I thought this was strange. This might be fine for other dishes, but not on pizza.  President’s Choice makes great plant-based / vegan food products, but I don’t think this is one of them. I would prefer Daiya or Violife over this, but I am willing to give this cheese another chance.

I kind of ripped right into the package before taking a photo. Smells nasty, tastes nasty raw, but when cooked into a plant based egg (JUST egg) it was pretty decent, minus the smell. Seemed to melt alright. My dad picked this up for me instead of violife so I figured I better eat it haha

This product is what gives vegan alternatives a bad reputation. It weirdly hardens when heated. When I tried to melt it under a grill, it was like tiny shards of plastic. When sprinkled on pasta it was like eating small pieces of hay. No. Just no.

Way better than daiya and generally cheaper too. Not available in as.mant varieties as larger brands but tasty and a great value nonetheless

I used it on a black bean quesadilla and it was really good.
