I bought this cheese wheel several months back as I was anticipating a gathering (that ended up not occurring), hence the old Miyoko’s branding. I realized I better dig in myself as it expires next month. Not being cultured in the world of fancy cheeses, I was both intrigued by and intimidated by the ash rind/coating. Though edible and fine tasting, the coating does tend to be a bit messy. I’d be careful with this one on a charcuterie board; you’d want to make sure it’s not touching other items and that your hands and utensils are clear from any ash whilst preparing the rest of the board. The cheese is very tasty! It has that Miyoko’s signature cultured flavor but it’s not overwhelming. I’m not sure what kind of cheese to compare it to….it just tastes like cheese! The rind has a bit of a smoky flavor, but it is relatively subtle. I actually really enjoy the base flavor; most of the Miyoko’s cheeses I’ve had in the past (and love very much) have strong herb, garlic or potent smoked flavors and this one stands strong without any of those to supplement or boost it. The texture is a bit crumbly. It is a drier cheese than the more easily spreadable varieties. This cheese definitely has me feeling fancy. I don’t think the price is unreasonable for the quality, however, it places it in the special occasion only category —unless I’m lucky enough to see it pop up at a discount somewhere. In any case, I’m very glad I tried it, as with Miyoko’s now up for sale its a bit of a question how the company will proceed and if any products will be on the chopping block. $11.89 at Clark’s #miyokos #vegancheese #culturedcheese #nutcheese

I brought this to a potluck to do so 😘 It paired spectacularly with the grapes and dark chocolate 😋 This wasn’t my lactose intolerant bestie’s favourite but she still totally gave it the old #omnivoreapproved stamp 😜 It’s also more crumbly and dare I say grainy? It’s not bad at all. It’s just a less moist cheese. The black ash was certainly interesting 🤔 endowing it’s #smokey flavour 🤓 The mouthfeel was ashy indeed. I’m not sure what word would best describe the opposite of a creamy type of cheese but that’s what this would be. I believe these go for $12 according to the online 🤓💻📡 Not my favourite but these are still ever impressive for #cashewcheese or cheese PERIOD 👌
