I got this for my friend’s bday party, and it was a hit. Bday girl put the dipped strawberries (brought by someone else) around the cake for presentation-purposes, so those are not vegan, but the ice-cream cake certainly is and it was so yummy! This was a custom order cake. Via Gelato isn’t mostly vegan, but they have so many vegan options, including interesting ones, that no vegan would ever feel being left out or having to settle for less here.
The custom cakes include 2 toppings that you can choose. I selected strawberry sauce, which is made from fresh strawberries, and toasted almonds, and I paid a little extra for a third topping, toasted coconut. I also paid a little extra for the dark chocolate writing The only thing that I was a little disappointed in was that there was no decoration. All of the toppings, including the Coco whip, was placed in a little container, which I forgot to take a photo of. But the most important part, the taste, did not disappoint! This was so delicious that I just might treat myself one day to one of these to be able to enjoy a little slice for dessert or snack on a hot summer day sometime.
If you check out their website, you’ll notice that some of the cakes are labeled vegan and some are not. But if you see one that interests you, and it’s not labeled as Vegan, email them! They just might be able to veganize it for you. That’s how I got this one. I was so bummed out when I saw that they had the strawberry shortcake gelato cake not labeled Vegan, knowing that my friend loves strawberries, the color pink, and that her bday is near Valentine’s Day, so out of desperation, I called them. The receptionist who answered, said that if I don’t see it online as Vegan, then they don’t have it available. So then I emailed them. Melissa has been replying to me and she is so helpful. I’m guessing that she’s the manager. She sent me a link where you can customize the cake, and showed me exactly what to select to make this strawberry gelato cake vegan.
