I grabbed a few sample bags of Hippeas Organic Chickpea Puffs at the Planted Expo show in Toronto in late April. I had never heard of this brand / company before, and I was totally impressed! Here’s a snack that is very similar to cheese puffs, but better.
Firstly, these are vegan! So there’s no dairy. In fact, the ingredient list doesn’t suggest it’s a cheese-flavoured food product. Then, looking at the list of ingredients, they’re healthier. Who makes a snack with chickpeas?? (actually, chickpea flour) For such a small serving size, there’s a lot of fibre, protein, potassium and iron in every bag. Lastly, on the environmental front, many of the ingredients are organic. With that comes so many benefits for Mother Earth (which are mentioned on the back of the bag).
I found myself licking my fingers a lot and loving the vegan white cheddar flavour. I like how the company is not afraid to use the word “vegan” to describe the cheese flavour.
I’ll have to find out where I can buy these. I want to support a company like this!! I can’t wait to try the other flavours I got.
