I simply adore Thunder Tree's Lo Han Zhai with Kolo Mee noodles. Their Saturday special, this dish is fragrant, hearty, wonderfully flavourful with no hint of saltiness and still a good lighter taste of the scrumptious fermented beancurd so needed in a good lo han Zhai.

Absolutely filled with vegetables including kale, carrots, chinese veggies and mushrooms and tofu, it is one of those rare affordable dishes in SG these days that fills me for about 3 hours for under $10. Indeed at $7.30, this absolutely satisfying bowl of sustenance pushes all the right buttons of texture, taste and comfort :) I feel so satisfied when I eat here.

The owner's daughter and her mom all run the stall . They are so lovely and are quick to recommend what to try such as their seasonal golden fritters featured in one of these pictures.

And hallelujah no msg. When I asked about it , the daughter herself said, "we don't use it at home so why would we serve it"! Ah music 🎶 to my ears.

So for $8.80, you get all that - the lo han Zhai noodles, golden fritters ($1.30) yes that is just one above :) and a bowl of clear soup. For those of us long term vegans (now in my 4th year), who have limited food budgets, this place is a God send.
