Hanwoo Village is a Korean BBQ restaurant located in Angel that is halal-friendly, rare for a Korean restaurant. They have a few vegan starters however the rest of the menu is not vegan friendly unless you ask them to make adjustments. They have plenty of vegetarian options however in one dish, they included seafood so I wonder if they really know what vegetarian is and by extension, what vegan is. This restaurant is very overpriced and the portions are small. In that sense, I believe they’re trying to market themselves as high end, fine-dining Korean food however as someone who has had a lot of Korean food, the style of it is usually very casual. The positives of this place is that the food is delicious so I do believe that the chefs know what they’re doing. However, I could also go to a family run place and get the same deliciousness for much cheaper. On the menu, dolsot bibimbap isn’t vegan unless you ask for the egg to be removed, which I did but they still brought it out with an egg… This dish is a bunch of veggies on a bed of rice in a hot stone bowl. I chose tofu as the main topping and it comes with gochujang sauce to mix in which makes it a bit spicy. The stone bowl kind of fries everything a bit as you mix it in (so the raw egg would cook), it’s very fun. This dish is the easiest dish to veganise so it’s my go to whenever I have Korean food. This portion is also less than it is in other places, it usually comes out very full. The presentation in other places can also be very neatly arranged on top of the rice so that you can see all the ingredients. This dish is very standard, you can’t really go wrong at all. What did stand out to me and was quite nice is that they used tofu strips that were a tad sweet. This was £15.50 which is waaay more than you would pay in most places where it’s around £9-11 and the portion is larger. Overall, I would not go back here of my own choosing knowing that there are other places that are just as good and not as overpriced. #korean #london #halal-friendly

You can have it in either two flavours: sweet chilli or soy garlic. I opted for the soy garlic. It comes out in a massive ass bowl (again, large plates, small portion, fine-dining feel). The aubergine pieces are not very crunchy or crispy, but they’re also not too soft. The soy garlic coating makes it a little sticky and gives the dish its sweet flavour. Overall, not extremely memorable, if I ever go back, I’d get the sweet chilli one. This dish was priced at £9.50. #korean #london #halal-friendly
