Ignore the heap of cilantro on top… it’s my bad for forgetting to order this dish without. #betterwithoutcoriander Luckily it wasn’t too finely chopped, and I just scooped it away.
The next dish we picked for our Happy Flower lunch was the salted fish #friedrice, which was referenced positively in a number of Google reviews. I don’t think the description is entirely accurate — I don’t recall there being any vegan chicken or mushrooms — but it was delicious as promised. Although the name would lead you to believe this dish would be sodium-heavy, it was actually one of the less-salty offerings, with only the dark brown soy-based #veganfish chunks providing a briny punch. #leavethefishinthesea Some of the other entrees were very well-seasoned (bordering on too salty,) so I definitely stand by ordering some type of #rice dish for balance. (Then again, some reviews online complained the food was bland — either the kitchen has overcompensated in response, or someone’s tastebuds are uncalibrated!) The rice was hot and very fresh-tasting, with a generous amount of fried #tofu and vegan salted fish. It was oily, but also, it’s fried rice (#sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease and all that!) Another generously portioned dish with a decent amount left to take home at the end of the meal.
The weather was nice, so we elected to sit outside (they let us pick our table;) the staff were attentive and came out numerous times during the meal to check that everything was to our liking. They have a pleasant space, but as a newer establishment, there’s still some work going on outdoors. While I was there, a crew was painting the façade and restriping the parking lot — hopefully in preparation for the massive crush of patrons coming their way (but just something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to paint fumes.)
