Healthier and lighter version of fried rice, consisting of brown rice stir-fried with diced carrot, corn kernels, red cabbage, and shimeji mushrooms. 🍚🥕🌽🍄 Plus of course the star of the show~ Handmade 'belachan' made using naturally dried and fermented organic soy. Surprised that it did have quite an umami flavour despite not using real dried shrimp. 🦐 Personally would have liked the 'belachan' to be made with dried chilli for a sambal version though - the dish came non-spicy by default, with an option to add chilli padi. 🌶️ Would have been good to have some peas or edamame in the fried rice too for protein! Couldn’t taste the belachan at all.. pretty underwhelming a dish. But, should one be expecting much from fried rice? This doesn’t live up to its belachan name.
Used short grain rice (Japanese) - my guess. Rice was on the harder side. I wish it wasn't that oily. 'Belachan' was not spicy at all so it is suitable for all to eat.
Quite dry so it’s good to get a cup of tea or soup to go along w it
I love this and have ordered this a few times. This tastes pretty similar to real belachan (in my view) but of course vegan :) quite addictive!
