Most vegetarian siew mai products I’ve seen in the market usually has a boring mush

texture from the mushroom filling. Those don’t necessarily taste great. This offering from Arlene has #omnimeat so that’s a little bit more protein. Really easy to prepare just by popping into a steamer. Tastes great with mushrooms, chestnuts and meaty! even has that hit of texture to mimic the hard parts of ground pork, have it with a side of garlic chilli for more flavour! Available at all Cold Storage outlets.

I saved one for my birthday treat! I grew up having siew mai for breakfast

because it is protein based, fast and accessible. When I first decided to go plant-based, believe me, siew mai is one of my “so long, farewell” food item. Here we go! Thank you Arlene for fulfilling my plant-based siew mai dreams. Very tasty with mushroom and Omnimeat to make up for texture.

Filled with Omnimeat, shiitake mushrooms, and water chestnuts. Skin was easily separated from the fillings

though. Think I would stick to cheaper veg siew mai available in the supermarket. Allium-free.

So many new finds at Cold Storage!! Haven’t seen this brand in the market before

so I decided to give it a shot. The siew mai steamed well, taste was a little bland but overall it wasnt too bad. Price wasn’t too bad either, $3.90 for a pack of 6 :)
