Ok I am very excited to review this blue cheese-alike because, for me, it tastes deeelicious.
Is it expensive? Yes, but well worth the purchase because you can savour every last crumb.
£5.50 - gasp! I know. However, I’m already planning all the ways I would like to try this delicacy. Today I raved over its creamy, tangy richness with wilted spinach and tomato on sourdough.
Tomorrow, I fancy it with crispbread, pear and a few walnuts.
It is made with almonds, coconut oil, tapioca flour, nutritional yeast, salt and vegan cultures.
I’m not sure which vegan culture is used in Brixton Blue but I was interested to read how they work and saw this online:
‘Vegan Penicillium Roqueforti
Used to make blue cheese varieties
Imparts the signature color, texture (when paired with needling), and flavor of blue cheese.’
I believe the cultures also help with ripening.
Apparently this business is the genius of two sisters from Wales. Well thank you very much, you’ve made my taste buds explode with delight.
I will be back for more and to try some of the other varieties.
