I am reviewing St. Dalfour Wild Blue Berries which my mum bought from Giant.
I like it when companies honour good, old traditions. It uses old French recipe😍
St. Dalfour has met what I looked for in a jam:
(1) Wild blue berries is the first ingredient in the list✅
Being first means it is the main ingredient. In seasons of great harvest, many families make jams generously out of the fruits. I am glad this is honoured in St. Dalfour – fruits is the key ingredient 👍🏻
(2) it lets you experience the taste of whole fruit – tiny wild blue berries ✅
There are so many of them when you make your first scoop of the jam. My children LOVE it. I am glad that it didn’t blend it all up like the other brands😊
(3) Glass is used for the jar and metal for the cap. All durable, reusable and recyclables materials ✅
Our grandparents era of glass and metal is good and well tested till today. I am happy to see St. Dalfour honouring this aspect in its packaging and no plastic is used. 👍🏻
(4) St. Dalfour has sweetened its jam with unsweetened grapes and date and concentrates ✅
Fruits naturally have water in them. To derive at fruit concentrates, the fruit undergoes a process where is juiced, fibre removed, and evaporated to remove the water content. What is left is its fruit sugar, called concentrates.
Of all the fruits available, St. Dalfour uses grapes and dates concentrates.
Grapes 🍇 by nature has very high fruit sugar, while dates are very sweet and nutritious, very often suggested in recipes as a good replacement of white sugar in baking.
I like the way where they studied and understand the food made available in nature and works with them. It is better than using the sugar which I felt has been overused seriously. Using concentrates is an intelligent move to up the level of sweetness👍🏻
(5) St. Dalfour uses fruit pectin to thicken the jam ✅
Fruit pectin it is suitable for vegans and vegetarians, unlike gelatin which is derived from animals. I like the fact that St. Dalfour didn’t use chemical addictive to thicken the jam too. 👍🏻
(6) St. Dalfour uses wild blue berries✅
Wild blue berries are more nutritious than blue berries which is commonly used by other brands. Definitely a plus point for me 👍🏻
(7) St. Dalfour has an amazing 51g of fruits per 100g✅
Many brands have sugar as their first and main ingredients in jam. To me that is not call jam, that is called sugar in a jar. Hence, I am full of respect for St. Dalfour.
(8) No artificial colours✅
When jams are cooked over heat, it loses it vibrant colours, so be on a lookout when the jam looks too vibrant. Read the ingredients listed on the bottle to make sure that no artificial colour is added to boost its vibrancy. Since you are already paying dollars for it, it is better to make sure that you are getting the best 👍🏻
(9) No artificial flavours ✅
Fruits when cooked wouldn’t taste like eating fruits on its own. Sometimes, companies add little fruits to save costs, and as a result, the jam lacked flavour. To make up for the lack of taste, artificial flavour is added.
Read the ingredients listed. Make sure there is no artificial flavour added to enhance the taste 👌🏻You want as much goodness as possible for your dollars.
(10) No preservatives✅
Remember to finish St. Dalfour wild blue berries jam within four months as this jam contains no preservatives. You need to keep the jam in the fridge once you opened it to maintain its freshness.
Anyway, it doesn’t last long in our family. I give it less than a week. It will be all gone, inside the belly🤣
(11) Lemon 🍋 juice is the last ingredient, and it makes everything tastes good ✅
(12) Sometimes, they give free spoons – long ceramic spoons for customer to dig right to the bottom to finish the last bit of jam ✅
But I never like the spoon. It doesn’t work to scoop up the jam around the edge at the bottom. Yet, it is the thoughts that counts 😊
St. Dalfour jam is more expensive than most jam commonly found on the shelves of supermarkets at $5.35/ 284g, at time of writing. When it is on sales, it is around $4.95.
St. Dalfour knows its price will be higher than its competitors when bottled at the same quantity as them. Hence, it comes up with a brilliant idea – sleek and tall bottle. It definitely set itself apart from the rest successfully👍🏻
Searching for a good jam is tough when I want it good and affordable. Not one that is loaded with sugar for my children. Nevertheless, it is the best jam ever for our family! Worth every dollar!
Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed. Have a beautiful day today! ❤️
