It’s been a moment since I last reviewed this & frankly since then they have genuinely improved on the flavour of this #friedrice 🙌 There’s some hear-say on the head chef being a #vegetarian perhaps being the cause for this change 👨‍🍳 Whatever it may be, I welcome it 🤗 This is actually 2 servings, plated as 1, as a bunch of friends and I were sharing a bunch of dishes after a lovely day at the beach 🏖️ The content seems more or less the same, with the regular #mixedvegetables, canned #mushroom 🍄‍🟫, and oh #raisins 😛 So it’s really something else that must’ve changed. The #umami just hits right now 🤌 Order it with some #soup or the #hericiummushroom and you’re set with a dish that’ll impress. This isn’t the most accessible spot to explore the #veganinkuching scene since you’ll need to be with a club member to dine here, but hey that’s why you gotta make friends with vegans in every city 😆

The only thing that would’ve made this dinner perfect is not sitting on the same table with a very drunk pro-CCP republican 💆‍♀️ Girlie, cutting rice but drinking 4 glasses of wine because of weight loss goals? Pick a struggle. It’s lovely to see that they offer a #vegetarian version of their #hotandsoursoup — you’ll just have to ask them to #droptheegg 🐣 This is also accidentally a rather #protein heavy dish per the tonnes of #silkentofu they put in it! I kind of stopped making this after my first year of going vegan for no good reason 😂 I’m so glad I got to try this! Sarawak Club is #bestpicks galore of you’re #veganinkuching but you’ve got to have a club membership 🤥 Thankfully though I can tumpang on @m1tch9i since members can bring lowlifes such as myself in 😜 Woohoo!

This appears to be a #special that might not be available year round! Order it while you can so they hopefully make it a permanent menu entry 🥹 This is a beautiful re-interpretation of what is apparently a staple #beef menu item 🐮💔 Instead of opting for #veganbeef they proudly use #mushrooms in place — catering for the skeptical omnivores that are so incredibly anti #fakemeat, pro-murder 🙄 I’m upset that even given this alternative and personal endorsement, I watched an omnivore opt for the “normal” one 😕 We still have a lot of work to do, making the world #crueltyfree and driven by compassion instead ❤️‍🩹 #veganuary #goveganfortheanimals #meatismurder

I was skeptical that this #tofu was #eggfree from the outside, but all’s good when you cut in! Plus @m1tch9i’s did all the work ensuring everything was vegan 🤗 I love a good #claypot any day and this had such a good range of vegetables 😋 Chilli too! Not #spicy whatsoever but do remember to opt out of that if it’s an issue for you 😉 This is a medium — RM25. The small is RM15 and the large RM35. The omnis have been converted 🙌 @m1tch9i’s dad was even googling all the health benefits of #hericiummushroom by the end of this 🍄 This was so perfectly fried and absolutely oozing with oil 🤭 Because #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease! No #batter, no nothing! It was the perfect side for a perfect dinner 😇 No wonder this comes off the chef recommendation menu; Hornbill Restaurant by the way. This was a medium by the way — RM30. I’m surprised that these #noodles are #eggfree 🐣 They have such amazing texture 😋 This comes off the chef recommendation #ChineseFood menu from the “Hornbill Restaurant” — the fancy freezing #Chinese restaurant on the left side of the club 🥶 It’s really light and oh so #savoury 🤤 This had a whole bunch of vegetables in it but don’t expect a protein or anything of sort. It’s such a great pairing with the #chilli sauce they have 🌶️ This is RM28 for the medium, which is what we had, RM15 for the small and RM40 for the large. Meals here are absolutely worth every buck 🙌 #veganuary #veganinkuching #bestpicks

I feel like we only ever eat here to appease the omnivores 🫤 The food here isn’t bad & this #kuehteow was pretty decent, but if I wanted something this bland or “healthy” I’d just have a #pokebowl and some basic salad. There are far better vegetarian options out there. Sarawak Club really needs to step up their non dead animals menu 🥱

It’s #friedrice 🥡 which is my way of saying the bar set for such a dish needs to be recognised as lower. FYI you’ll need to ask the kitchen to #droptheegg to make sure it’s properly #veganized 🤓 Nothing special here. It’s just your run of the mill #fried #rice tossed to a considerably respectable #wokhei 🔥 Admittedly, the choice of #vegetables could have been more. Here, we’ve got your typical mix of #carrots 🥕 what could’ve been more baby corn 🌽 and what appeared to be #bokchoy stems 🥬 For Kuching standards, I can’t be surprised by the presence of only 1 protein. That being the #mushroom 🍄 I was still satisfied enough since they seasoned it quite nicely on top of the good amount of char it had 😗 Like all their #asian #stirfry variants, this one clocks in at RM 8.50 😶 The recession is real, y’all… I think if the club had enough #vegetarian members, they could easily step up their game 🥸

Here’s another long one for the books 😅So, I was ready to weep with joy upon learning they had a #vegetarian version of my childhood favourite dish 🥹 I say it’s vegetarian specifically because this DID need to be #veganized à la #droptheegg 😗 Also, fine… @dafnelately 😵‍💫 I’ll bend to the will of your labelling since you got to reviewing this first 🥸 My criticisms will absolutely be comparative, making this a #reviewwithaview 🤓 While I can make a pretty dead-on replicate at home, nothing really tastes like the one tied to childhood ☺️ #growingupisoptional 🙃 So… it’s the same kitchen so I knew they’d deliver on the perfect cook and softness of the #kuehteow 😝 which they did. The char is always just a little below my family foochow standard 😂 which is a barely passing 70%. However, my only goal was for this to taste like the way it always did in its original omnivore variant. Soy saucey balance of sweet and salty to take the MSG on a magic palate ride 😜 The sauce was #mushroomsauce and actually contains no aliums! (There’s a tomato variant that I’d, personally, never entertain) They made sure to give a nice variety of #mixedvegetable and #mushrooms 😋 Whoah! I don’t remember my childhood to be RM6.30!? *sighs* Curse you post-COVID era… 😩 They only have noodles with egg, and I’m not the biggest fan of beehoon so THIS is most certainly my top #recommended 👍

As you can probably tell by the dish name… this is #veganized to remove the seafood and egg 🥸 So glad to have tanghoon when bee hoon gets boring 😜 Like many fried “noodle” type dishes, it’s swimming in bean sprouts. Much to my surprise, it wasn’t too overpowering 🤔 It’s actually fried really well to the point where it’s just greasy enough for it not to clump. Smooth pulls for each mouthful #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease 😋 In the mix of bean sprout, cabbage, carrot, chilli, onions and such, the mushroom prevailed the hero of the dish (aside from the tanghoon). The mushroom with the soy sauce MSG seasoning made this umami for days… 🤪 RM 8.50 is pricey but it originally has seafood, which is pretty expensive in this town… Plus I don’t have the gall to ask for a discount at a private club 🫥 I’d still recommend this because well… fried tanghoon is just a wonderfully reliable hawker style meal 👌

This may be the only place in Kuching I can confidently drink #juice . It’s only because I know they don’t put any additional sugars. There’s ice but just the right amount to keep it cool without being too diluted 🤌 I don’t know how but they’re always refreshingly good presses here 😜 It’s just that because it’s so good. This won’t always be available to me. At least they’ve always got eco straws. They don’t often use them but for juice, I understand why 🤓 A juice worth your cash given it’s RM 4.50 and pure. However, I could use a bigger glass 🫗 A thumbs up for the #juicelover 👍
