This consisted of 2 crispy, flaky samosas filled with ground hazelnuts and Holy Kakow chocolate, which is not only vegan, but also recommended but recommended by Food Empowerment Project because it isn’t made from cocoa that was produced using child labor and/or slavery. Maruti Indian Restaurant is my favorite Indian Restaurant in Portland because they’re entirely vegetarian and have a nice inviting ambiance. Their Tikka Masala is made with a coconut cream based tomato sauce cooked in Indian spices with your choice of mushrooms or potatoes, or a mix of both mushrooms & potatoes. This entree comes with a generous plate of basmati rice on the side, and there is also an option to add soy curls to the masala for only a couple dollars more, which I always do. The comfort this dish offers is even better with a side of their garlic naan, which I highly recommend ordering. Maruti’s Daal is some of the best! Made with seasonal lentils cooked in an array of spices, then sautéed with onion-tomato gravy, it is pure comfort food. Maruti’s Chana Masala is some of the best I’ve had! This restaurant is entirely vegetarian, and their menu clearly labels what is vegan and what is vegetarian. Their menu does not list that they have soy curls as an option for protein in some of their dishes, but our server mentioned this option when we were ordering.
