Maitrea is one of the capital’s most popular fine dining meatless establishments. Located in a picturesque street right off the Old Town Square, it makes for a perfect stop on your explorations of Prague. “Maitrea” is one of the thousands names for the Buddha, meaning “loving kindness.” The entire restaurant is carefully created in this spirit, utilizing the principles of Feng-shui for its design. There are water fountains, many live flowers and a massive stone statue of the Buddha. With two floors and 90 seats, the restaurant offers cozy romantic corners, as well as the possibility of business meetings or larger celebrations. The interior is luxurious, with oak wood, natural colors, marble fountains and lamps from layered silk. An international menu with a scope spanning from Czech classics such as “Svíčková” with dumplings or goulash, a Maitrea burger or even raw zucchini spaghetti, there is an option for every guest. There is a generous offering to satisfy sweet tooth’s, whether a classic such as stracciatella cake with mascarpone or a raw vegan strudel. The staff speaks English and the menu is able to cater to vegan, raw vegan and gluten free requirements.

Muy bueno! La "carne" estaba espectacular. La única razón por la que no le doy las 5 estrellas es que me habría gustado que hubiera más "carne" y menos pan. Es un plato vegetariano, pero en la carta se señala que tiene opción vegana. Purtroppo i dolci vegani tra quelli sul menù erano solo due su quattro. È un budino di perle di tapioca e latte di cocco con uno strato di mousse al cioccolato e una guarnizione di mele cotte a fettine e noci pecan caramellate. Non mi ha fatta impazzire, primo perché non sono una grande fan della tapioca e secondo non sono fan nemmeno del cioccolato, ma non al punto di negare che l'abbinamento con il cocco sia comunque sempre vincente. La pera e le noci erano un pò slegate dal resto ma aggiungevano sapore e croccantezza. Finito con poca fatica perché lo abbiamo condiviso ma non lo riprenderei. 🗓 marzo '25 - CHZ 165 (circa 6,60 euro)

Altro piatto di noodles che ci siamo sognati per diversi giorni, con salsa alle arachidi e zenzero, tempeh, pak choi, peperoni, cipollotto e coriandolo. Di per sé una preparazione semplice ma dove ogni sapore era ben equilibrato, in particolare mi ha conquistata il tempeh, sia per sapore che per consistenza, anche se ce n'era meno di quanto mi sarei aspettata.. Ho condiviso il piatto col mio compagno, forse alla lunga sarebbe putoto risultare un pò pesante per via della salsa alle arachidi, ma la porzione ahimè non è poi così abbondante 🗓 marzo '25 - CHZ 355 (circa 14,30 euro)

Maitrea è un locale vegetariano in una via tranquilla in pieno centro storico, elegante ma allo stesso tempo informale, l'arredamento curato nei dettagli vuole richiamare un'ambientazione orientale, con fontane, statue di buddha, piante ecc, ma il menù è un mischione di ricette senza filo conduttore: dai noodles alle lasagne, dal goulash alla quesadilla tex mex.. insomma quel genere di posti da cui solitamente non sono attratta, oltretutto con prezzi più alti della media, invece abbiamo mangiato due dei piatti più buoni di tutta la vacanza a Praga. Questi noodles mi sono piaciuti molto, erano saltati con kimchi, verdure, cipollotto e fettine di simil-anatra, probabilmente fatta con il seitan, che non mi ha ricordato l'anatra ma oserei dire meglio così, erano buone e saporite anche se non si sono di certo rovinati con la quantità.. 🗓 marzo '25 - CHZ 365 (circa 14,70 euro)

Ooh a floral take on #lemonade, bring it on! 😃 The #lavender combined beautifully with the #fizzy liquid to create something of which I was very tempted to get a second serving 😅 It was sweetened but not obscenely, just enough for the #sweettooth to take note and applaud 🙌 This did admittedly cost something like 4 euros 😬

Finally had a #goulash after so many days in central Europe! This came accompanied with a delicious #beersauce (#ditchdairydrinkbeer? 🤔) that had the depth and complexity to pair with the #fakemeat. This dish had to be veganised by swapping out the dumplings for roasted #potato. Can't help but feel that it would've been even better had there been something with which to really soak up the generous quantities of sauce 🥲 Portion size was just right, I was definitely at a good level of full after polishing this off!

This goes straight into my #bestpicks for any #starter that I've had. So bloody brilliant 😃 The #tofu #pate was creamy and mildly sweet, providing the perfect backdrop for the #berrylover #cranberry sauce to supply the complexity of flavour 😋 You get a choice of nachos or lightly toasted #bread as the accompaniment - the latter is very much recommended. I never liked the murderous version of #foiegras, mainly because the liver had this heavy and weird taste. I was glad to find absolutely none of that here! 🙂 The portion size isn't incredible, so do the right thing by yourself and make sure that you're #notsharing 😛

An original dessert with the combination of all my favorite flavors. I could feel them all present and distinguished in my mouth. I was happy to find tapioca pearls as an ingredient, delicious but unfortunately non very common. I really loved the pudding consistency, not excessively jiggly.

A delicious plate, recommended if you like the contrast of the sweet sauce combined with the umami of the seitan. The vegetables are really well cooked and the rice is the perfect mach with the richness of the plate.
