So full of wok hei, aka smoke aroma! This Dragon's Breath-infused dish belied its deceptively homely and simple-looking appearance. Long beans are also known as string beans or yardlong beans, and this ace execution at Lian Xin didn't need any sidekick veggies to stand on its own.

Taukwa (aka fried tofu) is a regular fixture in Lian Xin's daily pick-your-dish assortment and I finally got around to trying it #forthedollar. Why I took so long, I have no idea. This fried tofu block was plump and succulent inside, delightfully fried and lightly brushed with sweet chilli sauce outside. Tip: help yourself to the sambal chilli here because it pairs so well with the taukwa.

Muah Chee is pretty much peanut mochi, but make it Southeast Asian. This is an August limited-run nostalgic dish special by Lian Xin, presumably to mark Singapore's birthday month. Not complaining though - it's really well-made! Smooth and pillowy soft glutinous rice chunks cut into bite-sized pieces, then doused with a perfect mix of finely grated peanut bits, fine sugar and salt. Just so sedap!

Oof, this folate-rich veggie dish is nutritious for sure but also too healthy, too bland, and too raw at that. Sauce, it needs sauce. Seasoning too. What a waste of great vegetables.

Also known as 'Wong Bok'. Lian Xin is generally great with stews - this braised dish with shredded carrots, wood ear mushrooms and layered beancurd skin was seriously both homely and epic! Detected a hint of fermented beancurd too.
