Vegan Toona Black Pepper

Plant based Tuna in a can. No need to drain it. It is flavored with Unami to give it that fish smell and flavor. It is not strong. I do not use mayo, so the black pepper and oil already added was enough. It is chunky. It doesn’t break down like Tuna when stirred around, but that is not needed. I prefer chickpea salad over this, but this is good enough when running out of time and need something quick. Worth picking up!

I’ve only had a few tuna substitutes previously and none have really been much like tuna. I found this one for $1.99 and decided to give it a try, as it would be nice to have something like this on hand for days when it’s too hot to cook. Though my hopes weren’t too high I was still a bit thrown off by the look of the product, as it’s quite unappealing. It didn’t have a sea like flavor at all. The flavor is pretty reminiscent of the canned seitan you can find at Asian grocers.
