Raw california walnut halves and pieces

The second type of cookie that we always have to have at Christmas is Melomakarona. Traditionally, these cookies are made with walnuts, orange and brandy, and dipped in a honey syrup, like so many Greek desserts and sweets. I simply swap out the honey for pure maple syrup, which doesn’t compromise the essence of the recipe at all, but allows us to still enjoy this festive holiday treat. The cookies have ground walnuts both in the dough, and sprinkled on top. Unless I am buying in bulk, Trader Joe's nuts are always the least expensive, and are always fresh. I got these walnut pieces because they were slightly cheaper than TJ’s whole hazelnuts. I’ve bought them many times. They are always fresh and really tasty. Resealable bag.

I love trader Joe's nuts and seeds, they come in big and cheap packages. I use walnuts as snack, for baking and in various recipes.
