This vegan butter / margarine is great. It tastes, looks and spreads like its non-vegan counterpart. As always, it’s delicious on toast or in a bagel. I got this large 1.3 kg tub of Earth Balance Traditional Spread at Grocery Outlet for $9.99. I assume it’s a good price / deal. Oddly, the words “butter” or “buttery” used to appear in the packaging, but don’t any longer. Perhaps big dairy flexed its muscles to convince the court the “vegan” and “non dairy” labels weren’t clear enough to inform consumers that this product isn’t ‘real’ butter or margarine. So the generic description “traditional spread” is used instead. Sad, if true.

Here is vegan Chef Jean-Philippe ‘s favorite butter substitute. But I’m disappointed that it contains palm oil. I tried an apple crisp recipe but since I also had wilted pears 🍐 I added them to the apples 🍎 and the result was more runny. Still delicious 😋! A chance that I had made myself the recipe because otherwise I would have remained skeptical so much it tasted like butter.
