Dairy Free Cheddar

It was awful. Didn’t look like or taste at all like cheese. The consistency was awful.

I used this cheddar to veganize a vegetarian bean wrap recipe and it worked pretty well! Tastes decent melted but unmelted is a bit oily and I’m just not used to it hah…It has similar ingredients to their mozzarella, but is firmer and has that strong cheddar flavour. There is surprisingly not too many ingredients in the cheese and it seems like they’ve tried their best to keep the ingredients as healthy as possible. I don’t have any other vegan cheese brand to compare it to (yet!) but I hope I prefer either zenzo or another local brand because I like to #supportlocalbusiness.

• Zenzo dairy-free cheddar does have a good flavour when used in various dishes, though I wouldn’t personally call it my favourite out of what is currently available—especially not when sliced and eaten on its own. It has a soft, moist, crumbly texture, and comes in a medium-sized block for $7.80. I would like to see it melt better in the oven—same feedback I would give all dairy-free cheeses currently available in New Zealand. Used here on a homemade dairy-free garlic butter white pizza, topped with eggplant, basil/pine nut pesto, and diced red onion. 🙂 #zenzo #dairyfree #cheddar #cheese #block

Best vegan cheese on the block in my opinion! It tastes so realistic just without the casein so it’s not addictive like the non vegan competition.

Probably my fave cheese alternative widely available in NZ. Have shared with non-vegans, some very reluctant to try. All agreed if you put it in a cheese board and didn’t say it was dairy free, they wouldn’t know. Has a lovely flavour and texture
