okay, this started off amazing. it was a new rotating special at the diner and i was excited to try it. i could barely tell it was vegan!
the fries were good (although not the best i’ve ever had), the lemon was nice, and the tartar sauce was indistinguishable from nonvegan tartar sauce. the coleslaw was authentic and tasty; not anything unique, but a good staple.
the fish itself was the best and worst part of the dish. while the breading was crispy and the tofu fish somehow did taste entirely like fried fish (it was so spot on!) the fish was SO oily. it was practically dripping oil, and biting into it left my mouth wet and slimy. the paper in the basket was drenched in oil running off of this fish. so yes, it tasted great, but no, my stomach was NOT happy with this dish in the slightest.
i really hate to say this because it was so tasty, but do not get this unless your stomach can handle it 😭😭 because i have a strong stomach and even i was struggling here!
