My friend also suggested trying this #indian #sweet, soan papdi, which is one of his favorites. He was very surprised to see this vegan version, produced with vegetable oil, at the market; this dessert is typically made with ghee. I’d never had it before, but he said it tasted nearly identical to the traditional version. #ditchdairy
The confection has a fine, flaky, melt-in-your-mouth texture; it is somewhat reminiscent of halva or dragon’s beard #candy. I got a strong initial impression of fragrant #cardamom, followed by pistachio. I’m not a huge fan of sweets, so I found the soan papdi too sugary for my tastes, but I think I could enjoy it once a year; apparently it’s meant to be consumed during festivities. Really interesting to try… I’m so thankful to my friend, who isn’t vegan but always thoughtfully seeks out and shares animal-free treats that I might never find on my own.

Once upon a time Soan Papdi used to be my fav!! Haven’t had this in YEARS. Feels like I last ate it a lifetime ago. But Soan Papdi is an extremely popular sweet in India.
