My cautious foray into the world of vegan cheeses continues with Follow Your Heart. I don’t really know how provolone is supposed to be, but this cheese was creamy and mildly flavored.
As I removed a slice from the packaging, I was struck by how much it looked, smelled, and felt like dairy. It does have a hint of that vegan cheese flavor and dryness, but only barely — it was surprisingly tolerable even out of the fridge, which is not something I can say about most products.
It melted readily and tasted significantly better warmed; I used it in a delicious grilled cheese sandwich with apples and arugula. I’ve heard this brand can be expensive, but I’d get it again if it were reduced — I paid $1.99 for the package at Grocery Outlet.
