UM HELLO, NEW FAVOURITE SOUP. I can't typically do anything mala (I am neither a fan of ma nor la, really) and I'm not sure how vegan or even vegetarian Gong Yuan's apparently vegetarian soups are. (Like, that tomato soup isn't labelled vegetarian, which makes me wonder...)
But this Garden Vegetable soup (fully vegan) was just launched today across all outlets in Singapore, and I'm a HUGE FAN. Wow. This soup is really rich and beautifully flavoured - I always worry that adding ginseng might make something too bitter and medicinal, but here, it adds a full, lovely sweetness to the soup.
It's not cheap, since Gong Yuan prices by weight - so this huge bowl of vegetable soup (with additional rice) cost me about 12 bucks. Expensive yong tau foo!! But I'm willing to pay it because the soup is just so delicious and satisfying. I hope this stays in the restaurant's regular rotation!! 🙏
